Shining Star (Earth, Wind & Fire) was a hit.

Peter Gabriel leaves Genesis to pursue a solo career. Drummer Phil Collins eventually replaces Gabriel as lead singer for the group.

Shaun Cassidy, half brother of David Cassidy, releases 'Shaun Cassidy' (which ends up going gold) and "Da Doo Ron Ron" (which tops the charts) at the same time.
1978
The Buddy Holly Story, a popular film biography starring Gary Busey in the title role, is released. Twelve years later, the actor pays a quarter of a million dollars at auction for an acoustic guitar that belonged to Holly.
1980
Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes of the Buggles join Yes.
1981
Tom Petty withholds the tapes for Hard Promises, his fourth album, until MCA abandons plans to hike the list price from $8.98 to $9.98.

Traffic reunites for a US reunion tour.
